Quavo and Takeoff, the Uncle-Nephew Duo Behind Unc & Phew

What ties Quavo and Takeoff as uncle and nephew, why Offset is not a cousin, and what the 2022 duo actually released.

Sep 30, 2026

The orange-booth edits start with two specific people. Quavo and Takeoff are uncle and nephew, and that family fact is the whole of the credit Unc & Phew. The 2022 records, the COLORS performance, and the templates that reuse the orange room all sit on that pair. This page sorts the relationship from the rumor: who is actually family, who only grew up beside them, and which songs belong to the duo rather than to Migos.

A short record

Quavo
Quavious Keyate Marshall. Takeoff’s uncle, and one of the three voices in Migos.

Where they grew up
Gwinnett County, outside Atlanta. The two were already making music there as teenagers.
Duo name
Unc & Phew. Uncle and nephew, used on the 2022 records that leave Offset off.
First duo single
“Hotel Lobby (Unc & Phew),” May 20, 2022.
Album
Only Built for Infinity Links, October 7, 2022.

The family tie

Takeoff was Quavo’s nephew, not his cousin and not a friend who later got folded into the brand. Quavo is the older of the two. They came up in Gwinnett County, and the group that became Migos started in 2008 under the earlier name Polo Club. The name that stuck is a play on “three amigos.” Years of shared songs came before any duo logo. When Quavo and Takeoff finally put a two-man project on a cover, the family roles were already how people in the room referred to them.

That history is why the handoff in their records feels practiced. The uncle and nephew had been finishing lines around each other since they were young, inside the triplet pocket Migos made famous. They did not meet in a studio for a feature. Unc & Phew is that biography turned into a credit.

Where Offset fits

Offset is the third member of Migos, Kiari Kendrell Cephus. For a long time the public version was that all three were cousins who had been raised together. He did grow up with Quavo and Takeoff in the same part of Gwinnett County, and he was in the group from the early years, close enough that the cousin label lasted more than a decade.

The Migos page on Wikipedia records the correction Offset later gave: he is not a blood relative of either man. He was Quavo’s classmate, not his cousin, and not Takeoff’s cousin. The closeness was real. The family tree was not. He is also missing from the duo catalog. “Hotel Lobby” and Only Built for Infinity Links were made while the uncle and nephew were working as a pair, in a year when the trio’s future was already being argued in public. Searching the group name still mixes his records in with theirs. The duo name does not.

The 2022 duo project

Unc & Phew is the name on those two-man releases. Quality Control and Motown put them out. The pair had been in a trio long enough that a duo album read, to some listeners, like a split. No formal end of Migos was announced. The records simply arrived without the third voice.

  • “Hotel Lobby (Unc & Phew),” May 20, 2022. The first single, and the one the orange-room edits still use.
  • More singles across that summer and fall, among them “Us vs. Them” with Gucci Mane and “Big Stunna” with Birdman.
  • Only Built for Infinity Links, October 7, 2022. Eighteen tracks. It opened at No. 7 on the Billboard 200. Guests include Mustard, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Young Thug, Gunna, Summer Walker, Birdman, and Gucci Mane.

The album title answers Raekwon’s 1995 record Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. Takeoff said Raekwon was all right with the echo. “Infinity links” was their phrase for the uncle-nephew tie. It does explain why Quavo and Takeoff are the two voices in the clip, and why a third member never enters it.

November 2022

Takeoff was shot and killed in Houston on November 1, 2022. He was 28. Quavo and Takeoff had released Only Built for Infinity Links twenty-five days earlier. Migos did not go on as a trio. On June 25, 2023, Quavo and Offset performed “Hotel Lobby” at the BET Awards as a tribute.

The June 2022 COLORS performance is one of the last plain films of Quavo and Takeoff at the same microphone. Fans treat it as a document, not as spare footage. That is the clip to share if the point is the real pair. A file with new faces is something else, and it should not be labeled as if they filmed it. The date is part of the record whether a caption includes it.

How the pair became the booth format

In September 2026 the COLORS frame spread as a two-photo format. The song itself, the charts, and the desert music video are in the Hotel Lobby song guide. The casting note belongs here. The template holds because Quavo and Takeoff already sound like a conversation: one voice starts, the other answers, no third verse waiting. Two portraits map onto that. A single portrait has no one to answer.

Hotel lobby ai keeps the orange booth, the hanging mic, the camera, the cuts, and the reference audio. The recorded pair stays. The tool changes the two people from two photos. It does not write a new rap, and it does not accept a beat or a voice memo. There is no prompt. One readable face per file. The photo-by-photo version is how to do the Hotel Lobby trend step by step. Hotel lobby ai is not affiliated with Quavo, Takeoff, Migos, Quality Control, or COLORS.

Use photos you have the right to use. A friend, a partner, a sibling, two drawn characters, or a person and a pet. Not a fake of the original pair. If the goal is their performance, post the COLORS video. If the goal is your own pair in that room, the faces should be yours.
